We are looking for talented and motivated candidates with an interest in Neuroscience to investigate how juvenile plasticity shapes cognitive processing and adaptive emotional behaviors.
We have a strong interest on tackling how dysfunction of the underlying processes drive brain diseases—from schizophrenia or depression to demyelinating disorders, and devising strategies to harness them for therapeutics.

The specific projects will focus on: 1) synapse-level regulation of mRNA translation by novel multiprotein complexes during cognitive tasks and stress exposure; 2) roles of non-conventional glutamate receptors in neural circuits that mediate emotional and social adaptation. Tools will involve a variety of genetically-modified mice, 3D-reconstruction of circuits and connections, activity manipulations and RiboTrap/RNAseq analysis (Nature Rev Neuroscience, 17, 623, 2016; Nature Medicine, 19, 1030, 2013; eLife e71575, 2021; Cell Reports 30, 112477, 2023). Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline, and a solid background in biochemistry/cell biology, mRNA biology, imaging methods, or mouse genetics/Crispr techniques. Experience in the tracing of synaptic circuits or quantitative imaging approaches will be valued.

Our lab provides an alive and bilingual scientific environment at the Institute of Neuroscience (IN) de Alicante, by the Mediterranean Sea. The IN hosts research groups exploring the development, structure and function of the nervous system using a broad repertoire of state-of the-art approaches ( Our team is additionally engaged in international collaborations that allow us to expand knowledge and resources.

The position will be initially funded for 2 years; competitive candidates should be committed to becoming self-funded with fellowships and will have the opportunity to mentor Master and predoctoral students.
